Family

My post contentFamily. What is yours like? 2.4 children mum and dad white suburban? This is the ideal we were sold for years. Before that families were large and often a mixture of multiple marriages as it was easier to marry again to survive. Now we have single parent, split parents, adoption, fostering, cross nation adoption, single gender parent pairs, gender fluid parents and of course multiracial and multi religion households. None of that matters it is social constructs and constraints that cause issues. Sometimes your blood family don't even figure in your life, maybe this is a choice you made, maybe they did or maybe it was made for them. What family should be about is love, support, help, caring enough to tell you when you are being an idiot,giving you space but letting you know they are there when you need them. These things are provided also by friends and online support networks or groups to whom we become attached and who we trust enough to ask for help from. These sometimes are alongside blood families and sometimes they are instead of them and that is ok too. We need to look out for each other and be the light for those we call family, whoever they are.
