Pioneers
History

Emma Hardinge Britten (2 May 1823 – 2 October 1899) Was one of the main pioneers for Spiritualism in the Country [UK] and America. She was instrumental in giving the words that became the seven principles that are enshrined in the constitution of the Spiritualist National Union. I attended a talk given by Jason Dean Rothwell for the SNU EMDC entitled "Saying goodbye to the Victorians, Spiritualisms future" that discussed the fact that we need to move forward from the past but also that some of the things that were considered important like philosophy have fallen out of popularity in favour of "messages" This was a very interesting talk including the need to modernise to attract the younger members of our community into the centres. The fact we need to remind ourselves what our pioneers actually said and wanted instead of relying on what we think that was. Not being afraid of change going forward for as we look back and see the differences reflecting forward so will those who come after us look at us. Thank you Jason.
